Verizon has been selling its own Ellipsis-branded line of budget Android tablets for a while now, and today the company announced its latest offering, the Ellipsis 8 HD. It’s an updated version of the earlier Ellipsis 8, upgrading the 8-inch display from 720p to 1080p, the camera from 5-megapixels to 8-megapixels, and the operating system from Kit-Kat to Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
Hardware-wise, the Ellipsis 8 HD runs off a 1.5GHz octa-core Snapdragon 617 processor, with 3GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, and LTE support (the last one being somewhat of a given, considering that this is a Verizon-branded tablet).
Look, it’s a budget Android tablet. Is it a great device? Probably not. Does it have the incredible industrial design of Apple or Samsung’s tablets? Also no. But as a decent, cheap device for someone who just needs an Android tablet for whatever it is you’d use an Android tablet for, the Ellipsis 8 HD seems like it will do the job.
Verizon is selling the Ellipsis 8 HD is three ways: upfront for full retail cost at $249.99, $99.99 with a 2-year contract, or in a 24-month installment plan of $10.41 a month. It’s available now from Verizon’s website.
