Why would anyone want to charge their phone with a lightbulb?

The PowerBulb is a lightbulb that doubles as a charger. It can charge two devices at once, and it just launched on Kickstarter. Crowdfunding is awful because anyone can put their gadget idea out into the world and maybe make it a reality. Apparently the team behind the PowerBulb at Mega Tiny Corp discovered that people struggled to find places to charge their devices, especially if they shared a room with someone. So the company thought an LED lightbulb with two built-in USB charging ports would be a good idea. It’ll replace chaotic power strips and messy desks, they say. Do people have ugly charging areas?

I have a single power strip in my bedroom that I use to plug in my phone, laptop, hair straightener, alarm clock, and lamp. I tuck it next to my bedside table and honestly, it’s fine. It’s not a great solution, but it’s good enough and, at least in my opinion, looks just as good as cables hanging from a lightbulb. At least I don’t have to stick my hand between a lamp shade to grab my charging cable. The SmartBulb starts at $29.
