Samsung fixes the Chromebook Pro with a new backlit keyboard version

Samsung is fixing last year’s Chromebook Pro by releasing a new model of the computer that is virtually identical, save for one crucial difference: a backlit keyboard, via SamMobile (originally spotted first by ChromeUnboxed.)

The new model features exactly the same specifications as the original. It has the same design, the same 12.3-inch, 2400 x 1600 pixel display, and the same Intel Core M3 processor, 4GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, and $599.99 price tag. The lack of a backlit keyboard was always a strange omission given the Chromebook Pro’s relatively premium placement in the Chromebook pantheon, so it's nice to finally see the feature, even if it’s almost a year late. Unfortunately, only the Chromebook Pro seems to be getting the new keyboard; the slightly cheaper Chromebook Plus’ keys will remain stuck in darkness for now.

Curiously, Samsung is still selling the non-backlit version of the Chromebook Pro for the same $599.99 (presumably while it clears out stock of the old model). So if you’re picking one up, make sure that you’re buying the right one.

Update April 16, 2:15pm: Added original sourcing.
